IB Registration
There are many options and pathways for entry into WHSIB. We are an open enrollment program and encourage all students from a range of educational backgrounds to register for IB courses. We adamantly encourage that students begin their IB pathway in 9th grade by registering for IBPrep World Area Studies and AP US History in 10th grade. This set of courses develops the IB Philosophy and Approaches to Learning that prepare students for the Diploma Programme in 11th and 12th grades. Learn how to Chart Your Path here.
Coming from a Westwood feeder middle school? Students coming from Grisham and Canyon Vista middle schools have many opportunities to learn about the IB program at Westwood. We routinely send our current students to these campuses to talk IB and its value as an educational pathway through Westwood. We  host many parent and student sessions during the school year to show a glimpse of student activity and the rich curriculum we offer. In the spring, Westwood counselors schedule appointments with rising Freshman and their parents. Parents may also schedule one-on-one appointments with the IB coordinator to review their four-year plans through the program.
Coming from another campus in RRISD? Usually students who attend Westwood reside in the Westwood attendance zone. Students who attend Cedar Valley, Deer Park, Pearson Ranch and Chisolm Trail Middle Schools may be eligible to transfer to Westwood to participate in the IB Diploma Programme, depending on the address in which you live or if zoned to McNeil High School.

The first step is to enroll in McNeil or the home campus. Parents must also complete the transfer application on the RRISD site. For more information, and to understand the transfer timeline more clearly please visit the RRISD Transfer website.
Once the transfer is approved, Westwood will contact your family for a counseling appointment.

New to the district? Students who are moving from outside the district, state, or country find a welcoming home in the IB student community. Parents should note that we cannot evaluate transcripts until you have registered and met with a counselor on the Wetwood campus. Students transfering from other international and IB schools may be able to begin the IB pathway as late as 11th grade depending on the coursework completed at the other school.
